GD Authors: Brent Burket

Brent Burket stole the name for his art blog, Heart As Arena, from a Basquiat text painting that he couldn't get out of his head. His work appears on the public art organization Creative Time and the online arts magazine ArtCal Zine. He couldn't be happier to have been born in the same city as Andy Warhol. He currently resides in Brooklyn.

Artist Profile: Rob Nadeau

The first time I saw Rob Nadeau's paintings in 2006 I was drunk and I didn't like them.

Rene Smith

Painter René Smith moved here from Philly in 2003 and her paintings have been striking a chord in me ever since. The characters in Smith's work are furtive. They exhibit shamefulness and guilt, feelings akin to the initial blush of self-discovery.

Escape

The Preparation with Green Sky

Between my stops at PEER and Ed Winkleman galleries last night I happened upon Ashley Bickerton's show of new work at Lehmann Maupin. This Bali-living artist knocks it so far off the island they're going to have to build another ocean to catch it.
